Something that mostly lived in whitepapers just happened on a live network. On July 22, PixelPlex joined the first true peer-to-peer cross-chain atomic swap between the Canton Network and an outside chain, and no one had to hand over their keys to pull it off.
How the swap worked
The short version: four institutions (Arqitech, MPCH, sFOX, and PixelPlex) swapped Canton Coin for USDC on Ethereum mainnet, straight across the two chains. The trades ran on Canton MainNet through Arqitech’s Atomic Swap Protocol, and from start to finish, every party kept its own private keys in its own wallet setup.
That last detail is the whole point. Canton was built for regulated firms, so it usually works a bit differently: validator nodes hold the signing keys for their parties and push transactions through on their behalf. Arqitech’s protocol turns that around. Participants sign for themselves, whether through platforms like DFNS or Fireblocks or from their own private node, and the validator only assembles and submits what has already been signed. Custody never leaves the owner’s hands, even while assets cross chains.
Why it matters, and what comes next
That is exactly the kind of problem we like working on. PixelPlex has been building on Canton for a while now, and being one of the four names in a milestone like this is why we showed up. As we put it at the time: “This atomic swap on Canton highlights the future of privacy-preserving cross-chain innovation. PixelPlex is proud to advance blockchain development that delivers scalable, compliant liquidity for global institutions.”
The timing sits next to a bigger moment for Canton Coin, too. sFOX plans to list CC for public trading on August 1, 2026, which adds real liquidity behind swaps like these. Arqitech’s deployment is already running on Canton MainNet, and the swap capability opens up to customers over the coming weeks.
None of this is a finish line, though. Arqitech worked with Digital Asset on the new Canton Token Standard, CIP-0112 (now called V2), approved by the Canton Foundation in June 2026, and it is already testing a stronger version of the swap protocol on that standard. The goal is to wire Canton into deeper liquidity across the wider digital asset market, and we plan to keep building right alongside it.
