We are delighted to declare Anderson Ng, a master's student in Textile Technology at Thomas Jefferson University, as the winner of our biannual essay scholarship competition for Fall 2023-Winter 2024.
Anderson Ng was awarded a $2,000 scholarship in the PixelPlex Fall 2023-Winter 2024 essay competition for his insightful essay “How the Internet of Things, Digital Twins, and Deep Learning Transform the Textile Sector.”
His work delves into the transformative impact of technology on the fashion industry, with a focus on improving textile end-of-life processes, and provides a thorough examination of the Internet of Things in enhancing the traceability of raw materials and the effectiveness of real-time data tracking using RFID technology, digital twin models, and deep learning AI.
In discussing his motivation for the topic, Anderson remarks, “I chose this topic because I actually have had first-hand experience researching and collaborating with industry partners to come up with sustainable solutions with these technologies and systems. As a textile technology student, I have become acutely aware of the potential in textiles and the opportunity to modernize this age-old industry through the use of innovative, interconnected technological systems.”

About the scholarship
Since 2019, the PixelPlex STEM Scholarship has been inspiring students to explore innovative technologies through their essays. This bi-annual award targets students in the fields of science, technology, engineering, math, as well as economics and business, offering a $2,000 scholarship to the most compelling and well-researched submissions. The scholarship’s main objective is to support students in covering their educational costs.
Participants are required to submit essays that delve into topics such as blockchain, metaverses, the Internet of Things (IoT), machine learning, and big data. These essays should ideally illustrate how these advanced technologies can resolve existing challenges and enhance our daily lives.
The winning essay is chosen based on its adherence to the specified criteria, the originality and depth of research, and the innovative ideas it presents, continuing a tradition of excellence that began with the scholarship’s inception.
