Prototyping

Published:

Prototyping is how a team turns an idea into something concrete enough to learn from. Instead of arguing in the abstract, the team builds a simple version and watches what happens when it is used. This makes assumptions visible and helps the team decide what to change before full development.

In AI projects, prototyping often begins by putting real data through an early model and checking whether the output helps someone make a decision. This quickly shows whether the model fits the workflow and whether the experience feels usable. It can also reveal practical issues like slow response time or confusing handoffs that don’t appear in offline evaluation. As the prototype improves, it becomes stable enough for a pilot test, where the system can be tried in real use on a limited scale.
