Human–AI Collaboration

Published:

Human–AI collaboration is when a person and an AI system work as a team on the same task, with each side taking on a defined role. The AI contributes speed and consistency on parts of the work that can be handled automatically, while the human provides context and makes the final calls when judgment matters. The workflow is designed so human decisions and AI outputs fit together in a single process.

For the collaboration to hold up in real use, the roles have to be clear. People need to know what the system is responsible for and what still requires their oversight. The system also needs a clear way to signal when it’s unsure, so difficult cases can be reviewed. That is why teams judge success by how the combined pair performs, not only by the model’s accuracy in isolation.
