Pattern Discovery

Published:

Pattern discovery looks for repeated structure in large datasets. A single record rarely tells you much on its own, but patterns become visible when you zoom out. By examining many examples together, teams can spot behaviors that keep showing up and relationships that hold across the data. This broader view helps explain what is happening at the dataset level, not just in isolated cases.

A simple example comes from shopping data. Pattern discovery can reveal that certain items are often purchased together, which can inform recommendations or store layout. The same idea is used to establish what “normal” looks like in a system. Once normal behavior is clear, unusual cases stand out more easily.
